IWE engineer on assignment: welding coordination and expertise

Green Engine provides industrial companies with IWE engineers (International Welding Engineer) who work directly on site, within your teams.

What is an IWE engineer?

The IWE (International Welding Engineer) is a welding engineer qualification defined by the IIW, the International Institute of Welding. It matches the most comprehensive level of knowledge for welding coordination according to ISO 14731.

It is obtained after training and examinations harmonised by the IIW, and ranks above the IWT (International Welding Technologist) and the IWS (International Welding Specialist).

When should you call on an IWE engineer?

  • your workshop is seeking or renewing ISO 3834, EN 15085 or EN 1090 certification;
  • your client or the code of your sector requires an IWE or IWT welding coordinator;
  • your coordinator is absent, or the position is vacant;
  • a new welded fabrication is starting: new materials, new processes, new procedures;
  • a subcontracted fabrication has to be followed at the supplier, accepted or commissioned;
  • a defect or a non-conformity needs a technical analysis.

What a welding coordinator does

The welding coordinator is responsible for planning, carrying out, supervising and inspecting welding fabrication tasks: review of requirements, welding procedures, personnel and equipment, inspection and testing, handling of non-conformities, traceability. These tasks and responsibilities are defined by ISO 14731, to which the welding quality standard ISO 3834 refers.
